MDM Observatory 1.3m Telescope Observer's Report for 2005 Mar 11 Observer(s): Bentz Institution(s): OSU Instrument: CCDS Worked for 8 hours (most of the night) Conditions were Mixed most of the night. Problems were encountered, see the separate trouble report for details. Seeing and Weather: Clouds from 1800 until 2145. Beg: Overcast, Winds Calm Mid: Seeing 2 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm End: Seeing 2 arcsec, Cirrus, Winds Calm Observing Summary: Some nice thick clouds settled over the N and E part of the sky right before sunset and they didn't go away until about 9:45pm or so. I got started about 10 and discovered while trying to slew from my standard star to a target that the telescope wouldn't slew south. It would slew in any other direction, but would only go at the set speed in the southern direction while making a loud intermittent clicking noise. Later in the night, while trying to go south from a target at Dec +72, I held the slew button down for a good 5 minutes, all the while moving just slightly faster than the set speed and making that loud clicking sound, when the telescope suddenly started moving at the slew speed again. However, the next time I moved to a new target, it had stopped working and continued to not work throughout the rest of the night. ------------------------------ Submitted on 2005 Mar 12 [6:11:45]
