YALO Telescope
Email Lists

To provide information to YALO consortium members and users in a relatively low-maintenance way, we have setup a number of topical mailing lists using a Majordomo server at the Ohio State University Department of Astronomy. YALO consortium members and guest investigators from the astronomical community assigned time through the NOAO TAC are invited to subscribe to these lists as their interests dictate. You can also unsubscribe yourself at any time.

Getting Help

Help from Majordomo

Majordomo is a public-domain automated email list server that is probably the most widely used on the internet, and it has extensive internal documentation. To find out more about the automated server and the commands it understands, send an email to majordomo@astronomy.ohio-state.edu with the one-line message:

     help
and no subject line. The majordomo server will send you a detailed help message in return.

Help from Humans

If you feel your problem is such that you need to reach a human, send email to:

     list-approval@astronomy.ohio-state.edu
where "list" is the name of one the relevant YALO mailing lists (e.g., yalo-users-approval@astronomy.ohio-state.edu) and describe your problem. Your message will be forwarded to whoever is currently serving as the list manager.

Noise Abatement

The lists are pretty quiet as mailings lists go, and there has not been any trouble with extraneous garbage. So far so good. However, just in case, we have implemented the following policies:

  1. Subscribers whose email bounces frequently will be removed from the list.

  2. Subscribers who habitually send unsolicited email to any of these lists, or do not use the Reply-To feature correctly after repeated requests, will be summarily removed from the list.

We hope we never have to act on these policies, and thank you for your cooperation.

Purpose:
Distribution of general information about YALO, including telescope news, announcements of new procedures, and other information.

Similarly, you can unsubscribe from yalo-users at any time by sending the one-line message
