Lens Monitoring Project Target Identification

Observatory:

Date: Year Month Day

Present Seeing: FWHM arcsec Display:

You must enter an observatory before anything can happen.

The date defaults to the current day on your computer.

You need only an estimate of the seeing FWHM. Each lens has a seeing threshold, and as your seeing estimate approaches the threshold, the priority for the lens starts decreasing. If it exceeds the threshold the priority becomes zero.

The priority number (high number=high priority) tries to factor in when the last observation was made, how often we are trying to monitor the lens and whether the seeing is good enough to make an observation worthwhile. Objects with too low a priority are not listed. If you want to see a list of all the lenses, change the DISPLAY button to "All Visible Lenses" (still including the restrictions created by your seeing estimate) and then "Submit Request". The DISPLAY button will reset itself to "Prioritized Targets" automatically

The standard monitoring filter is SDSS r or the closest approximation to it available for your instrument.

For each target we would like to get three exposures. The exposure times should be 5 minutes for a 1.2m, 3 minutes for a 2.4m, 1.5 minutes for a 3.5m, and 0.5 minute for anything larger.

After an observation of a lens, you should click on the "done" button. This updates the history list and if you "submit request" again the target list and the priorities will be updated.

Clicking on the object name gives you a finding chart with information on the image separations and magnitudes.

Last JD gives the last date on which the target was observed. The observability is given as a function of local time. Targets should be observed only during the black times. Red entries are produced if the sun is up ("sun"), if the target is down ("down"), if the target is too close to the moon ("moon") or if the airmass is too high. The numbers give the airmass.

When finished, you can get rid of the data immediately if so inclined.
