Beautiful sunset, which usually means not very good observing.
CTIO - general view. The big dome on the left houses the 4-meter
telescope.
Two biggest telescopes - 60-inch in the front and 4-meter in
the back.
Sunset view of CTIO.
CTIO's fleet of Volkswagen bugs - when you observe,
you get to drive one.
Las Campanas Observatory (LCO) - August 1995 (Chile)
Overview of LCO. On the hill to the right the 6.5-meter
Magellan Telescope under construction, the 2.5-meter DuPont
telescope on the extreme left.
LCO - the ridge. From left to right: 1-meter Swope telescope,
60-cm Canadian telescope, 16-inch astrograph, OGLE 1.3-meter telescope
construction site and 2.5-meter DuPont telescope. This was taken in
August 1995, so the Polish 1.3-meter telescope was fully constructed
and is now (April 1997) in operation.
1-meter Swope telescope, used between 1992-95
by the OGLE
collaboration for the microlensing search.
The Magellan telescope under construction. This was taken
in August 1995, so there were considerable changes since then
(expect an update once I go there again).
European Southern Observatory (ESO) - August 1995 (Chile)
General view of ESO. La Silla mountain, the site of ESO,
hosts more than 10 various European telescopes.
Some (9) of the many telescopes located at La Silla.
15-meter submillimeter Swedish telescope. Although designed
to work in submillimeter wavelengths, it produces nice optical
images too.
