The Dark Energy Survey

The Dark Energy Survey is an ambitious program to study the acceleration of the universe. The heart of the survey is the Dark Energy Camera (DECam), which is a new prime-focus camera for the 4-m Blanco Telescope at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory that has a 3 square degree field of view. DECam will be used to image approximately 5000 square degrees in the grizY filters and probe the nature of dark energy through four probes: Type Ia supernovae, clusters of galaxies, weak lensing, and baryon acoustic oscillations. The survey data will also have many applications to fields such as galaxy evolution, Galactic structure, and high-redshift QSOs. In a series of short reports, we will present an overview of the survey, highlight Ohio State's roles in the project, and describe how to become involved.
