History of the Early Solar System

Subsequent to planet formation, the gravitational interactions of planets with the gaseous birth disk, with the residual planetesimal disk, and/or with sibling planets are the cause of dramatic orbital migration of planets leading to the final orbital architecture of planetary systems. I will review current understanding of planetesimal-driven planet migration in our solar system, and present new results that provide quantitative information about the migration of the giant planets and of the associated heavy planetesimal bombardment in the inner solar system.
