[M51 Image] [OSMOS On Telescope] [QSO at z=6.4]

May 15, 2011: The 2.4-m rotator motor was upgraded to a stepper motor and the MOS mode was commissioned. The new motor has the requisite precision (0.01 degrees) to align multi-slit masks and may be controlled with a new Rotator GUI from the control room. Here are pictures of the rotator installation and the first multi-object observation.

April 16, 2010: The first VPH grism arrived today from Kaiser Optical Systems, Inc. This grism will have R=1600 with an 0.9 arcsec slit and the blaze peak is at 450nm. Here are pictures of

April 16, 2010: The first VPH grism arrived today from Kaiser Optical Systems, Inc. This grism will have R=1600 with an 0.9 arcsec slit and the blaze peak is at 450nm. Here are pictures of the grism in the lab in Columbus. The last picture is perhaps an inevitable result of ordering from a company located in Ann Arbor, MI. We plan to install the VPH grism into OSMOS in mid-May.

April 12, 2010: OSMOS' first night on the MDM 2.4m Hiltner telescope went extremely well. Here is a link to a collection of commissioning photos and results

March 25, 2010: OSMOS lab testing has gone extremely well and we are on track to ship on March 31. Here are pictures of the instrument with all of the optics and mechanisms on the optical bench.

February 12, 2010: The OSMOS cart is complete and the enclosure is back from being anodized. Here are pictures of the anodized enclosure on the cart.

January 21, 2010: The OSMOS enclosure has arrived. Here are pictures of the preliminary assembly, prior to anodization.

Nov 6, 2009: The OSMOS enclosure design is complete and ordered. The parts are expected by the end of December.

May 8, 2009: The OSMOS collimator and camera lens barrels have arrived!

February 27, 2009: The OSMOS collimator and camera lens barrels have been completed. Acceptance testing at Coastal Optical Systems is scheduled for mid March.

January 27, 2009: The OSMOS triple prism disperser arrived today from Coastal Optical Systems. Follow the links for an image of the prism and a demonstration of zero deviation.

December 19, 2008: Assembly and testing of the double filter wheel was completed today with the lab electronics. Follow the link to a recent picture of the filter wheels and slit wheel.
