I did some research of various fun
things before showing up in Ohio.
I'm trying to start a page about my various travels, but it's not quite finished yet. Meanwhile, I've got an absurd number of pictures on my MIT account still; someday they'll move somewhere else, perhaps with a "next" button. There's also some evidence that I can be quite compulsive... or at least used to be.
At MIT, I was suckered into being Refreshments Director for the
Lecture Series Committee. LSC sucks;
free movies for life doesn't (not to mention the free popcorn and drinks
while I was still "working"). I was also partially responsible, along
with two friends from
Harvard, for the burgeoning of the Harvard-MIT Mathematics
Tournament. HMMT also sucks, but that's okay because (1) there are a
lot of high school students who don't understand there is a lot of stuff
orders of magnitude more important that a high school math
competition and (2) it's still plenty better (and bigger!) than
plenty of other competitions. Oh, yeah, and I was Rush Chair for my
dorm, Random Hall in
2003. This was after
Rush had started sucking, but the frosh that year were totally
fantastic, for which I take full responsibility, of course.
I attended the Research Science Institute in 2000; I have stayed involved over the years since high schoolers doing real science is awesome.
I've also been known to visit the world of puzzling from time
to time, but I've only written
one puzzle so far.
