We selected two prizes:- a.     Prize for the best thesis in Physics and in Astronomy (M. Sc and /or PhD ) b.     Prize for the best Academic supervisor in Physics and Astronomy c.      We made selection rules for the winners based on the how many publications in highly impact factor journals (ISI). The research papers might be original and Novelty work. In addition, the applicant should have good repetition and nice behavior with his colleagues in either his department or faculty. d.     We wrote official  letters to the Heads of Physics and Astronomy departments in each branch at Al Azhar University to make local announcement for the Applicants 2-     May-1- June 30-2014, is the primitive period for the Applicants to  submit their research Activity to the office of the Dean of the Faculty of  Science in Cairo 3-    Jluy-2- 2014, the second meeting to open the files of the Applicants, we found that: a.     No Applicants from the department of Astronomy in Cairo b.     No Applicants from the department of Physics in Cairo c.      No Applicants from the department of Physics  at Girl Branch  in  Cairo d.     No Applicants for the prize for the best Academic Supervisor in Physics and in Astronomy. e.     One Applicant for the best thesis in physics has been received from the department of Physics at Al Azhar University –Assuit Branch. Kind regards Mamdouh   Date: Fri, 25 Jul 2014 22:39:53 -0400 From: Sultana Nahar To: mamdouh ahmed , Dean Prof Mohamed , Lotfia El Nadi Cc: Sultana Nurun Nahar Subject: Re: Prizes for 2014, minutes Dear Mamdouh and Professor Mohamed, Assalamu alaikum. It will be easier to discuss the issues over the phone if you use skype. There are differences in handling the nominations. 1. All best teachers prizes are nominated by student votes. Depending on their votes for teachers from whom they learnt most in class, the committee will select the prize winners. 2. The best advisor or distingquished prize, the nomination will be based on largely research publictions. The teachers will not apply. The Chairman along with committee will evaluate the number and quality of publications and then decide who should get the prize 3. The students will not apply either. The committee will see evaluate the graduating Masters and Ph.D. students for their research and academic performane and select the winners. Student prizes are easier since the departments know who have performed the best. Out of those, the committee can decude the winners. Teachers evaulation will require committee to oversee the nomination. Please hold a student voting to put down the name for whom he/she learn most in the class. I am copying this to Professor Lotfia El Nadi who can explain the successful guidelines being used for Cairo University. Please keep me updated and included in the process being held for the fist time. Let me also have the phone numbers to call you. Yes the faculty of Sciences at cairo is the oldest but we have no any authority on the other.  the same case at girl branch. so we saw that the nominations should apply to their won department. and the committee at the faculty of sciences in cairo will investigate the files which were approved from each department and Faculty.  I do believe that this way is good enough and by this way it works. Mamdouh, you informed me that you don't have any applicantions except one for Masters from Assut branch. But to be sure he/she is the best graduatin student of his/her, Chair of that department needs to confirm. To reduce the load of evaluation, I would suggest the following. Each Chair of the various campus should send the nomination for its best Masters and Ph.D. students with their CV's to Cairo branch. The committee at Cairo branch will evaulate them for the final decision. I would still like some teachers get recognized as well. - Sultana Date: Sat, 26 Jul 2014 12:13:12 -0400 From: mamdouh ahmed To: Sultana Nahar , Prof.Lotfia Nadi , Dean Prof Mohamed Subject: Re: Prizes for 2014, minutes Parts/Attachments: 1 OK ~135 lines Text 2 Shown ~315 lines Text ---------------------------------------- This is done. We got statement from the chairman on behalf of the department committee. We have received his file as follows: 1- Thesis 2- formal letter from the post graduate office for registration and penalties 3- formal letter from the chairman 3- Cv 4-  copy from the pdf papers.  As said on the first message to you that we need to make decision to give him the prize or cancelling this year. My opinion is giving him to start the prize and make reclamation for the next year. Please if you are agree send me your agreement. This only one prize for the master's thesis. I would like some more prizes for masters and Ph.D. thesis. Please email once more to Physics Chairs both in male and female campus and Astronomy Chair to send information of their best students for prizes. - Sultana Date: Sun, 27 Jul 2014 08:29:21 -0400 From: lotfia elnadi To: Sultana Nahar Subject: Re: Prizes for 2014, minutes Parts/Attachments: 1 OK ~334 lines Text 2 Shown ~364 lines Text ---------------------------------------- Al Salamo Aikom Hope you are  enjoing EID  EL FETR . When  I return  11  August I will discuss with  Dr. Mamdouh GOD  BLESS YOU Lotfia Date: Sun, 27 Jul 2014 11:00:36 -0400 From: Sultana Nahar To: lotfia elnadi Cc: Sultana Nahar Subject: Re: Prizes for 2014, minutes Dear Lotfia, Assalamu alaikum and Eid Mubarak. Lotifia, you are right. I did not realize they changed conditions. If they have other campuses, it may be appropriate students from those departments can get the prizes as well based on qualification. I was also surprised that applications are called for the prizes. Departments should decide on the students, but not on who is applying. I would really like you talk with Al Azhar University and give some guidance. Both Alburuj and myself performed Omrah at Makkah after visit at Taibah University. It was a dream-come-true to touch Kaba and do the Omrah. Pray for a wonderful visit and Eid for you. With all my best wishes, - Sultana
