The abstract is pasted below.  As usual, food will be (hopefully) delivered at 12:30pm, and the presentation/discussion will begin at 12:45pm.  We aim to have DJC once a month, and slots are still open in March or April. If anyone has ideas on topics or papers we should discuss, please let me know. In February (date TBD soon), physics graduate student Makana Silva will lead a DJC on the status of TMT and Native Hawaiian perspectives. Thanks, Laura Speaker: Sultana N. Nahar Title: International Society of Muslim Women in Science at OSU Abstract: International Society of Muslim Women in Science (ISMWS) was founded at OSU Astronomy Department in 2010. The fraction of Muslim women in science is the lowest compared to that in any other groups, but they do not know that the total number is not very small, a positive fact for confidence. They lack in resources, scopes for collaboration, support for advances, communication with others. They are also aware of their traditions, dresses, culture that are not dearly supported by Western or any other races. The objective of ISMWS was to form a network of Muslim women in science for moral support, encouragement to science and research, exchange information on higher education, jobs, fellowships, and secure possible grant for some financial need. ISMWS has motivated many females. We have over 300 members from 31 countries and has a student chapter at OSU which may expand to other institutions.
