It has come to my knowledge that Sultana became last March the APS Woman Physicist of the Month (http://www.aps.org/programs/women/scholarships/womanmonth/2013.cfm). Citing from the APS award: "Dr. Nahar is a very effective research advisor to her group of students and postdocs, as well as researchers in developing and Arab countries. She was recognized by her university with the Outstanding Research Mentor Award. She is also involved in promoting physics research and education in several Asian and Arab countries and is the founder of International Society of Muslim Women in Science. She is an APS Fellow, recipient of the highest honour gold medal from the Topical Society of Laser Sciences, and recipient of the 2013 John Wheatley Award." The latter, "For efforts to promote physics research and teaching through collaboration, mentoring, and philanthropy in several third-world countries, and in particular for her promotion, as both an advocate and role model, of Muslim women scientists." She will give the John Wheatley talk at the next APS April Meeting in Denver. Considering also Dame Helen's recent bash, I can certainly confirm that our female contingent is walking out with all the medals. Perhaps you can join me in giving Sultana our warmest congratulations! Regards, Claudio. [ Note: This message contains email list management information ]
