786 Sharing an update of mine : Completed Ph.D. Physics Wasikul Islam Mon 19/04/2021 20:17 To: Nahar, Sultana Dear Prof. Sultana Nahar ma'am, Assalamo alaikum. Hope you are doing well. Ramadan mubarak ! This is Wasikul Islam, from Oklahoma State University, whom you helped in getting admission inton Ph.D. Physics in Fall 2015 (from AMU India). I hope you still remember me. I thought to share with you that a few days ago, I completed my Ph.D. defense successfully and the journey of my Ph.D. ends with that Alhamdulillah. I did my Ph.D. with ATLAS Experiment at CERN & worked/spent significant time in Argonne National Laboratory (for 1.5 years), at Fermilab (1 year) & at CERN (1 year) during my Ph.D. I feel blessed to have some experiences in work at all these labs whose name I would read in books just 6 years ago at Aligarh ! Thanks for writing reference letters for me back then. In another development, I have accepted a post doctoral research associate position at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA to continue working with ATLAS, CERN for my first post-PhD job, in sha Allah ! I will join that postdoc position next month in sha Allah. For postdoc, I will be working with/under Prof. Sau Lan Wu, who happens to be a very tall figure in the Experimental High Energy Physics world. JazakAllah khair for all your help, guidance and support when I was applying to Ph.D. positions ! I can't thank you enough for that. On a different note, I will be visiting Cleveland, Ohio tomorrow for a few days, if you are in Columbus & if you are meeting people in person during this pandemic period (I got my both vaccines), I can see if I can drive to Columbus only to meet you shortly. First of all, please accept my apologies for my late reply. Thanks a lot for sharing the article & for your email. I enjoyed reading the article & found it great as it highlights some of your efforts which you are putting on different fronts for promotion of science & for uplifting communities especially among muslims. Jazak Allah khair for everything that you do. It was great meeting you after 6-7 years (for me) at your house for iftar & dinner. In fact we were discussing that in our whole weeklong traveling, one of the best experiences we had was meeting & spending 5 hours time with you! Yes, our Niagra falls visit on the next day was an excellent experience too. Regarding our AMU-Alumni organization for mentorship SSGSA (Sir Syed Global Scholar Award : website : www.ssgsa.us ) on which we discussed at length, you can find more details from its website. In 2019 during the Atlanta FAAA Convention, we have a photo with yours with our SSGSA Newsletter. We have used the photo in different presentations, but probably not inside other newsletters, I am attaching the photo along with this email. In the photo two other persons are : Mr. Syed Ali Rizvi and Mr. Ali Muzaffar from our SSGSA team. Also, please feel free to read our latest SSGSA Newsletter at : http://ssgsa.us/Newsletters/Newsletter_2020_Centenary_Edition.pdf . The list of our 120+ successful admission list can be found at : http://ssgsa.us/scholars.php (around 10 more admissions from Fall 2021 are not updated though). As we were mentioning, through SSGSA, over the last few years 20+ students have come to study Physics in US/Europe ! I am also attaching a few group photos which we took at your residence. As you requested, I am doing cc to my friends with whom I went to meet : 1. Ajaharul Islam ( PhD Candidate in Physycs, Kent State University: ajaharulislam25@gmail.com ), 2. Hafijul Islam (PhD Candidate in Physycs, University of New Hampshire: hislam09@gmail.com), 3, Md Ful Hossain Sk (PhD student of Physycs, University of Kansas : fullhossain@gmail.com). I am doing cc to 3 of them. P.S. : I heard that the father of Hala apa (cc-ed) was admitted to hospital (ICU) recently. I pray that he recovers fully very soon in sha Allah. Wasiful, I liked the visit very much that all four of you from AMU made a week ago. Pray you had very good trip to Niagara falls. Please give me the email address of all of you, and a copy of the magazine with Atlanta convention picture. Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) has published an article on me at https://www.osc.edu/research/research-reports/2020/breaking_barriers Ohio Supercomputer Center supports Nahar's international HPC efforts Sultana Nahar, a research professor in astronomy at The Ohio State University, discovererd the lack of support for female scientists around the world after a trip to Egypt. Nahar founded the International Society of Muslim Women in Science (ISMWS) to support these scientists, and the Ohio Supercomputer Center has provided these women access to HPC resources. www.osc.edu which has cople of pictures, one of ISMWS (International Society of Muslim Women in Science that I founded in 2010 and a student chapter of it at OSU in 2017) and one of my computational workshop at Cairo University. OSC keeps its articles online for years. The same article with a different picture of the certificate ceremony of the workshop that I held in Patna, India is published in the annual research report of OSC. OSC has asked me to post them at my social media accounts. I have facebook, linked, and twitter accounts but I have never posted anything in them. Could you post the article in your social media connecting to my accounts so any relevant person can access the article?
