I am pleased to inform you that we have identified three recipients for the Nahar and Rahman prizes.  The Sultana N. Nahar Prize for Distinction in Teaching will be presented to Professor Peter Hoffmann.  Peter took the initiative to bring Evidence-Based Teaching methods in our algebra-based physics courses [PHY 2130 and 2140] and the associated labs [PHY 2131 and 2141].  Some of these changes were made in Winter 2017 and additional changes will be made during the next academic year.  The Sultana N. Nahar Prize for Distinction in Research will be presented to Professor Zhixian Zhou.  Zhixian is being recognized for his excellent research performance in 2D nano materials resulting in several high-impact research papers.  He was also responsible for graduating a significant number of Ph.D. students in the last two years.  The Alburuj R. Rahman Prize for the best Ph.D. Dissertation will be presented to Dr. Hsun-Jen "Ben" Chuang.  Ben worked with Zhixian Zhou for his Ph.D. degree.  As a graduate student, Ben was author was ten research papers which are widely cited in scientific literature.  After his graduation, Ben received his post-doc position at Naval Research Lab starting around January 2017.
