Galaxy Clustering and Dark Matter Halo

Idit Zehavi
Case Western

The recently-completed Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has been immensely useful for studies of the large-scale structure of the universe. I will present new measurements of galaxy clustering from the full SDSS redshift survey, concentrating on the two-point correlation function. The SDSS is particularly suitable for investigating the dependence of clustering on galaxy properties, and we focus on the dependence on color and luminosity. We interpret the measurements using contemporary models of galaxy clustering, which elucidate the features of the observed correlation functions and constrain the relation between galaxies and dark matter halos, providing insight on galaxy formation and evolution.
