Galadriel was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1988. She was a domestic shorthaired calico cat. Galadriel was quiet and shy, very definitely a one-person cat. Her mother was rescued from a freeway divider while pregnant with Galadriel, and so Galadriel had to advertise in the paper for a human. Kris and David worked out pretty well, although they did insist on moving from Honolulu to Columbus. Galadriel missed eating geckos and especially missed the year-round tropical weather to which she was born, but she learned to catch a variety of midwestern birds and mice, even in the snow. Galadriel was named after the Elvish Lady of Lothlorien in The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien.

Galadriel excelled at looking cute, playing string, romping in the yard with Kris, and sitting on Kris's lap. She continually worked on improving her purr volume, and toward the end of her life added cuddling at night to her accomplishments. Galadriel's idea of ecstasy was to have Kris dry her off with a towel after Galadriel has gotten caught in the rain.

Galadriel had long-time heart problems, starting with a murmur as a young cat, and escalating into hypertrophic cardiomyopathy after surviving being hit by a car in November 1996. Her heart failed in May 1998, at the age of 10. She is loved and missed.
