Final Exam
The Final Exam will be on Tuesday, March 17 11:30am - 1:18pm.
Attendance at the Final Exam is mandatory. The final will be comprehensive, covering all lectures, and has the same multiple-choice format as the in-class quizzes, only about two times longer. It is worth 40\% of your grade.
No makeup final will be offered. Persons who miss the final exam will be given an incomplete (I) with an alternative grade equal to getting a zero on the final, and have to make it up during Spring Quarter 2009 to avoid the alternative grade. In keeping with official University policy, early finals will not be available for those persons who wish to depart early for spring break. Please plan ahead and make your travel plans accordingly.
Further information on the final exam will be posted here when it becomes available.
How to study for the final:
Check out the Study Guide. Note that this is just a combination of the Quiz study guides, but with a few additions.
Work through all of the Quizzes a second time.
Work through all of the Homework a second time, remembering that I will not ask you to derive numbers on the Final, but that I will want you to remember the scalings of the equations that I emphasized in class (e.g., L ~ M4 or V = H0 d).
That is, you will be asked to remember things like Brightness is proportional to true Luminosity divided by Distance squared, but I will not have you calculate anything with the “4” and the “pi” that are also in the equation.
FINAL EXAM RESULTS: There were 85 questions. The mean was 79.4% with a standard deviation of 12.4.
