Homework Assigments

There will be five Homework Assignments, each consisting of a short set of multiple-choice questions.  The questions are open-book, open-notes, open-discussion, which you will answer using bubble sheets returned in class on the due date.  Collectively the homework will count for 15% of your grade.


In computing your final grade, all of the homework will be combined and then it  will be graded on a standard C+/B- curve.  If you have any questions, please contact Prof Thompson or TA Bird.


Homework is due on the following Fridays:


Homework #1 : DUE: Friday, January 16

    Graded: Average score: 67.4%



Homework #2 : DUE: Monday, February 2

     Graded: Average score: 78.1%, Standard deviation: 13.6



Homework #3 : DUE: Monday, February 16

    Graded: Average score: 78.9%    


Homework #4 : DUE:Tuesday, March 3

No late homework will be accepted, except for legitimate, documented emergencies.


All 5 of the homework assignments contribute to your final grade.  Collectively they account for 15% of your final grade.

The five homework assignments were combined into a single homework score.  The total number of homework problems was 58.  Given the combined average and standard deviation of the class homework grade distribution, the final grade division was as follows:


  Grade distribution: 

        A: 51 - 58

        B: 44 - 50

        C: 38 - 43

        D: 31 - 37

        E:  0 - 30
