The SVP Star Flyer

The SVP Star Flyer is a 360-foot, 4-masted barkantine sailing ship owned and operated by Star Clippers, built in Belgium, and sailing under the flag of Luxembourg. It carries up to 170 passengers and 72 crew. It is a true tall sailing ship, none of that computerized sailing nonsense. The ship had a polyglot international crew under an Russian captain.

On Friday, as we sailed toward the island of Hydra in the Argo-Saronic Gulf, the winds were light enough to set all of the sails (save two that were shredded during a brief but intense windstorm 2 nights earlier). Some of us were then taken in a motor launch to travel along side the Star Flyer as she sailed under full sail.

This sequence captuers the ship as the sails are being furled, and finally she's under full sail. If all 16 sails are set, the total sail area is nearly 36,000 square feet. Out on the spar is the "Swedish Sport Team" (even though the dive instructor is German).
